Brit solo performer Charles Webster is an electronic music producer and DJ who creates multi-genre tracks, but specialising in house, downtempo and jazz. Born in Matlock, Derbyshire, he got his first instruments at the age of 13 and developed a love of German trio Kraftwerk, the band that he cites as the influencing factor in his music career. He performed in a host of different bands in his early days including Mile High Club and got his break DJ’ing in Nottingham’s Garage Club.
In 1996, Webster created his own record label, Remote, and by 1999 he had released his debut album, All Systems Gone. He received extremely high praise for the album, with DJ magazine giving it a 11/10 and Allmusic describing it as “Probably the first classic record of the 21st century”. He’s gone on to release four more studio albums, Born on the 24th of July (2001), Remixed on the 24th of July (2003) and Decision Time (2020). He’s also released music via a variety of aliases, including Presence, Furry Phreaks, DJ Profile, Shine Hot, Lizard and Symetrics, while also collaborating with Peter Wraight in the Webster Wraight Ensemble on a regular basis.
