British Electronic Music Producer, DJ and Musician Sam Shepherd or ‘Floating Points’, as he is known on stage, hails from Manchester and attended the prestigious Cheetam’s School of Music as a pianist.
He began producing music under his current moniker in 2008, and DJ’s as a resident in the popular London venue, Plastic People, in the late 2000s. He draws inspiration from Claude Debussy, Olivier Messiaen, and Bill Evans when creating his unique blend of electronic music, and has even toured with The xx in 2017.
Shepard also performs his work with a 16-piece orchestra, named Floating Points Ensemble and the group even won the award for ‘Best BBC Maida Vale Session’. He recorded three studio albums, Elaenia (2015), Crush (2019) and most recently, Promises (2021) in collaboration with world famous jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, in what is Sanders first studio record for almost two decades and the London Symphony Orchestra.
